Dept. of surgery is one of the major departments in the Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Centre which undertakes all kinds of general surgical work including gastrointestinal surgery, surgery of the breast and endocrine glands, and various soft tissue surgical procedures. Teaching of undergraduates and post graduates is our main academic activity. In addition to that, we undertake research activities, conduct various CMEs and surgical workshops.
Our departments functions as four units with 1 professor, 3 Additional Professors, 1 Associate professor, 6 Assistant professors, 2 senior residents and 12 junior residents. Each unit has 2 OP days, 2 OT days and 2 grand round days

Emergencies are attended round the clock by the admitting unit as mentioned above and patients can attend emergency department for the same.

The dept of surgery was established in Jubilee mission hospital in the year 1952 under the leadership of Great Dr.H.S Adenwalla. It was in the year 2003, Jubilee Mission hospital was upgraded as a medical college & the department of surgery was headed by late Dr.M.L.Dathan. At present, the dept of surgery has 12 well experienced consultants headed by Dr.M.V.Suresh. The dept of surgery over the years have grown to become a premier centre catering the surgical needs of people not only from Kerala but also from neighboring states like Tamilnadu, Karnataka & Andra Pradesh. Many non resident Indians also utilize our centre for their surgical needs.
To establish the dept of surgery as "Centre of Excellence" for patient care, academics and specialty training.
